doorway / portal / opening / entrance / exit

As I open my door
Light shines across the floor
Liberating our minds
No turning our hinds
There’s no need to pick sides
Set free these closeted minds
Though hates what fear finds
Just pick no sides
I suppose what fascinates me most is its ability for delimitation, its capacity for incarceration. Intermittently grand in scale, periodically stylistic in aesthetic, reliably as a means to create and negate division. Its existence is apparent; its influence is inconspicuous. A door has this authoritative ability to create or terminate, unify or divide, glorify or crucify. Its varied aesthetic narrates stories of culture, identity and place where it may act as a symbol of politics or economics, a reminder of philosophy and religion, or to merely express the narrative of an artistic and architectural palimpsest.
